Early on July 14th, I headed to the airport and headed for Newark, New Jersey. That was my first mistake....never fly into New Jersey! I was greeted by, well...rude New Jerseyers. I immediately felt "Europe-sick". I wanted nothing more than to get back on a plane and head right back to anywhere in Europe. After tolerating the rudeness, I started making phone calls to everyone I had been missing while in Europe. It was good to catch up with my friends and family while waiting at the airport.
On Tuesday, July 13th, I decided to get out and see more of Barcelona. On July 11th, I had decided to buy a ticket home for the 14th. I had a ton of stuff to get done before starting classes at Temple Medical School and there was no way I could get it all done from overseas, so I decided to come home for a week. You see, before I was accepted to Temple Medical School, I had planned on traveling extensively around the world until the end of December. Because I was going to be gone for so long my dad thought it would be fun to go on a cruise during that time. We found a cruise through the Adriatic sea for July 24th-31st. That was perfect because I would've been gone for a month and it would've been nice to see a familiar face. Well now that I got into Temple and have decided to come home, I find myself going right back to Europe for the cruise, only to come right back to the States and starting Medical School Orientation the day after I get back. No big deal though. :)
So, we didn't end up going to Pamplona. Instead we woke up late, since we didn't get to bed until pretty late the...well...that morning really. Once we woke up we headed to the next hostel that we were staying out while in Barcelona. (Yes, this will be the 3rd place in well...4 days) Once we dropped our stuff off, we headed to the beach of course!!
(I ended up spending an entire week in Barcelona so I'll break this up into a few different posts.)
Finally! A day we could just be kids again!!! We woke up relatively early and headed out to Disneyland!! Luckily there is a train that will take you straight to Disneyland which was about an hour outside of Paris.
On July 5th, Jules and I got up early and headed out to Paris! We started by trying to figure out how to get to the Eiffel Tower. We went a very round about way. We finally made it to the Eiffel Tower after passing a random statue of George Washington. The Eiffel Tower was PACKED!! The lines to go up were very long and the prices were not that cheap either. We decided to finish eating the bread and cheese we bought earlier that day. It was pretty cool to see all the sites and see the famous Eiffel Tower.
On July 4th, we woke up a bit late but headed straight to church once we woke up. We made it in time for most of Sunday school and sacrament. After Sunday school we met some guys in the ward who were from Utah actually but were in Paris for different reasons. It was funny because as we were walking to Sacrament, we all ran into someone we knew! Juliana ran into a friend from BYU who she also ran into in Singapore last summer. The guys ran into people they knew and I ran into Kate Lund! She was a friend from BYU who is serving a mission in Paris. Sacrament meeting was wonderful! There were tons of people from the States there, there was even a big group of students from BYU on a study abroad. They actually broadcast Sacrament meeting into another room so it could be translated into English!
On July 3rd, we woke up early and headed out to the Vatican. We went with Hunter and Matt, the guys from the hostel that we met the other day.
Sorry for the SUPER long post before, I promise this one will be shorter!! On July 1st, after I recovered my phone from Como, we headed to the airport. We arrived in Rome around midnight I would say. We finally got to our really secluded hostel down this really kind of creepy and small alley. It was an interesting hostel. While there we met these two guys who ended up being from Maryland and Massachusetts! It was relieving to meet some Americans for the first time in a while. We stayed up late talking to these guys and then finally went to bed.
On June 30th, Juliana and I woke up, got our bathing suits on and headed to the train station. Juliana had friends who told her we HAD to go to Lake Como because it is absolutely beautiful! Realizing quickly that Milan was nice but not interesting enough for another FULL day of touring around, we decided to take the 1 hour train ride to Lake Como.
On Tuesday, June 29th, Juliana and I headed to Milan. When we got there we did what I was now used to doing, hoping on a bus that would drop us off at city center and figuring it out once I got there. We made it to the train station, which ironically my parents lost each other less than a year before this trip. Luckily, Juliana and I didn't lose each other.
When I got to Dublin, I headed straight to my hostel. This was going to be my first hostel experience so I was a bit nervous. I get to the hostel and find it to be very clean actually. When I get to my room, I find a few other girls already asleep, so I try my hardest to be as quiet as possible. I find my bed and settle in. It was Saturday night so I looked up where the church was and planned on how I was going to get there.
On the 26th, I did the 2nd touristy thing of my entire trip. I hoped on a tour bus and headed to the Giant's Causeway. I didn't care much because I had always wanted to see the Giant's Causeway and this was pretty much the most effective way to get there. On the bus I met a few students from Seattle University who were doing an internship program down in Dublin and took a long weekend to visit Belfast.
On the 25th, I arrived in Belfast pretty early in the morning. I decided to make most of my time since I was only going to be there for a day. I got on a tour bus and did one of two touristy things of my entire trip. I went around Belfast and saw all the amazing murals around the city. I saw where the Titanic was built and tons of other historic sties in Belfast.
Sorry!!! Apparently I can't update my blog using my Blackberry? I don't know, all I know is that I would get to this point and it wouldn't let me type in the "compose" box.
